KursbeschreibungThis e-learning seminar focuses on the relationship between gender and welfare states in comparative perspective. It will introduce students to the concept of work and welfare states, and explore how gender relations influence welfare state arrangements. Drawing on historical institutionalism we will also study how the modern welfare state is affecting the way in which women and men interact in our societies. Our key question will focus on different social policies arrangement to enable parents to combine work and family. We will address important issues such as the significance of employment for women, child care arrangements, social assistance, and social rights. Drawing on comparative welfare state analysis our case studies will be based on different types of welfare regimes, including Germany, Sweden, and Poland.
