FAQ (frequently asked questions)
Operating System
Q: What operating system does the platform run
on?
A: Check whether there is software available capable of displaying
HTML
documents (see below). To print the course, use a program that prints
PDF documents.
Browser
Q: What standards should my browser comply
with?
A: Your browser must have a basic support of
HTML
4, Cascading Stylesheets 1, and
Unicode. If present, you may disable Java
and Javascript.
Q: What browsers do you recommend?
A: Netscape Navigator 6.1+,
Mozilla 0.9.2+,
Opera 6.0+, and
Microft Internet Explorer 5+.
Netscape Navigator 4 is not recommended.
Q: Why does my browser sometimes show small empty
squares or question marks in the text?
A: Possible causes are:
- Your browser lacks support of Unicode (e.g. Netscape Navigator prior to release 4, Microsoft Internet Explorer prior to release 4, Opera prior to release 6). Install a Unicode enabled browser.
- The page is displayed with an inappropriate character set. Check whether you have chosen Unicode (UTF-8) as encoding (Microsoft Internet Explorer users: View|Enconding, Netscape Navigator users View|Character Set).
- Your font is incapable of displaying the characters in question (we have observed this behavior on Windows 95 and 98). Download the latest Times New Roman font (times32.exe).
- Windows 9x users: You did not install the multi language support. Click on Start|Settings|Control panel|Software and install the Multi Language Support in the Windows Setup Tab.
Printing
Q: What program do I need for printing?
A: We recommend printing the PDF documents using a PDF viewer, e.g. the
free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
