Fourier series approximation


When we carry out a Fourier analysis the function f(t) will be decomposed into a sum of harmonic
oscillations of discrete frequencies. The result is a trigometric series, the fourier-series.

In practice, the Fourier series is normally finished after a finite number n and an approximation is
carried out with the help of a  trigonometric polynom of n-th degree. In this applet you can
gradually change n by pressing the N+ or N- button. By using the animation button you can start
an animation which allows to gradually change the degree n up to 50. The last possibility is to select n
directly by entering a number between 1 and 200. You can observe the approximation with
different functions which can be selected by pressing the function button.
