Function decomposition into an even and odd function

The calculation of the Fourier transform of any arbitrary function f(x) is simplified if we make use of the relation f(x)= g(x) + u(x).
Then, g(x) is an even function and u(x) an odd function.

u(x) = 1/2 * (f(x) - f(-x)) and g(x) = 1/2 * (f(x) + f(-x)) applies. This relation is illustrated by the following applet.

The user has the possibility to give f(x) with the mouse. Additionally, some special functions can be chosen directly. The representation of each function plot can be adjusted with the help of a popup menue (right mouse button).

Technical requirements: JAVA 1.1.4 or newer.

The applet automatically finds out the version of the virtual machine (VM).
